Audience Focus Group

Above is an embedment to my focus group where I am asking them questions about music videos that they have watched and how each element appeals to them. With this research, I can develop my planning of my music video and used the aspects that they find appealing as these two people are my target demographic so therefore I know that the elements that I include from real media texts will appeal to my audience.

Music Video Structure

Katy Perry- Roar   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CevxZvSJLk8 Music videos often contain a number of different elements: Performance, Narrative, Thematic, Symbolic. Performance- In Katy Perry's Roar video she is seen to appear performing in an unusual surrounding, which in this case is a jungle. The video contains many close ups of the artist and there is a particular visual style that seems to go with the artist which is her clothing. Katy is the figure of an erotic gaze, an object of male desire which is a voyeuristic gaze. Narrative- The video tells a story that is featured in the lyrics or is suggested by the lyrics. In this music video binary opposites are used to show the day vs the night.
